Yoga in the month of February –

We are entering the month of February and this means we are halfway between the Winter Solstice (the darkest night of the year) and the Spring Equinox (the beginning of Spring). Hard to imagine thinking about springtime during this cold and grey month, but the days are starting to get longer.

During January, we transitioned completely out of 2016 and into 2017. Now in February, we are transitioning from standing into moving into the year. We may be making progress toward achieving our goals. Are we moving deliberately or are we rushing to get things done? Are we moving with steadiness and ease? Are we comfortable with where we are? Does our life mirror our Yoga practice? Or is it the other way around where our Yoga Practice mirrors our life? While on the mat, do we feel a sense of steadiness or are we so focused on getting that pose-no matter the cost? Are we stable in our foundation?  Can we sit with what’s uncomfortable within our bodies? Can you sit with a posture to see what unfolds for you in your body?

This month we will explore these yogic concepts of steadiness (sthira) and ease (sukham) during our practice. This exploration will focus on finding the steadiness within using the spine, the core and balance postures.
